Dark Smokey Full Glam

Recently I’ve found myself gravitating towards softer looks, so I thought I would challenge myself with this weekend ready dark smokey eye look! I really love the messy/undone vibe it gives but of course you can choose not to blend the look out as far if you prefer!

I started with the eyes as I knew there would be a lot of fall out from the dark shadows. All shadows used are from the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics palette.

I primed my lids using Urban Decay Original Primer Potion, and set this down using Nude. I then took a MAC 217 (fluffy blending brush) and began to deepen the crease using Commando, Tempted, Faith and Lockout. I kept going into the lighter shade to soften the harsh lines and ensure seamless blending from one shade to the next. To add more depth to the look I took the shade Magnet, this is a warm grey tone and will help to blend out the black.

To ensure a really opaque lid colour I took a black eye pencil, this was one I got from a  Ted Baker gift set but any soft dark black pencil will do! After applying this from the root of my lashes to almost the crease, I took the shade Blackjack on a flat shader brush and really packed on as much colour as I could. I then took Tempted on a clean MAC 217 and tried to blend the harsh black line as much as I could. This is definitely one of those looks that gets really messy before it gets better! I then mixed in some of Lockout and Magnet through the crease to deepen the blend. To add some warmth to the look I took a little of Extra Bitter and blended this though the crease.

Before starting the skin I took a face wipe and tidied any fall out, I also sharped the edge of the blend to give a more winged affect.

As I went all matte on the eyes I wanted a more luminous/dewy finish to the skin, I first applied Tanya Burr’s Face Illuminator to my skin, I then used Too Faced Born This Way foundation in Porcelain mixed with a pump of Sleek Barekissed Illuminator in Monaco. I used Tarte Shape Tape Concealer in the shade Light Neutral under my eyes and set this in place using the Kat Von D Setting Powder in Petal. I set my foundation with MAC Mineralise Skin Finish Natural in Light.

I wanted quite a heavy contour, so I took Dark Cocoa from the Too Faced Cocoa Contour Palette on a Morphe 459, then used Medium Cocoa from the same palette, on a Sigma F05 to blend the contour and bronze up the skin a little. I used MAC Harmony Blush to add a little colour to my cheeks without overpowering the look and then I used The Balms Mary Lou Manizer to highlight the high points of my face. I also used this as an inner corner highlight and brow bone highlight.

For the brows I took my trusty Soap and Glory Brow Pencil in Hot Chocolate to fill in my brows and set them in place with L’Oreal Artist Brow Plumper. This combo is my absolute fave!

To finish the eyes I used the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Water Liner in Legend and ran this on the tight line and water line, I then took Extra Bitter mixed with a little Blackjack under the eye on a small pencil brush. I used Faith to help smoke out the lower lash line and blend away any harsh lines.

I wanted to add some lashes to this look, I find that using just mascara means your eyelashes can get a little lost amongst the black shadow! I used the Eylure Texture Lashes No 159, these are quite full lashes without being too heavy! I then used MAC Extended Play Gigablack Mascara on top and bottom lashes!

 

The lip choices with this look are endless! I love how this looks with a red lip, I used Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Lipstick in Lady Balls for this bold bright red! But my preference is the pale nude, I used Kylie Cosmetics Exposed Lip Liner and Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Lipstick in Child Star.

I’m obsessed with how this look came out, it would be perfect for a night on the town or to any event! It’s super customisable as well, so make sure to give it a go!!
