BLOGMAS 01: Party Ready Matte Smokey Eyes

Hey Everyone,

To kick off Blogmas I thought I’d share my favourite quick fix eyeshadow look. This is perfect for newbies or if you just don’t want to spend ages on your makeup, which we all know happens around party season when you’ve only an hour to get home from work and out for dinner again!

For this look you need 4 eyeshadows and a few different brushes. You need a large blending brush (something like a MAC 217) and a more tapered blending brush (like a MAC 221) then you need a dense brush for packing on colour (like a MAC 239), you will also need a pencil brush (MAC 219) and a small smudger brush (MAC 214). If you opt for gel liner you’ll also need an angled brush!

I used eyeshadows from the Huda Beauty Textured Shadows Rose Gold Edition palette, but you could use any shadows they just need to be a similar tone (e.g warm browns) and in varying depths and you’ll need a black. This is such a versatile technique and can be used with any eyeshadow selection, but it’s best to go for a matte!

For this look I started with my brows, I used Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in Dark Brown and an angled brush to get the perfect shape for me! I used NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer in Vanilla to help clean up around them. I used the highlighter from the Urban Decay Naked Skin Shapeshifter Palette to highlight my browbone. For this look it really helps to do these steps first.

I then went on to prime my eye lids with Urban Decay Primer Potion, this helps your eyeshadow stay in place all night! I then took my large blending brush (MAC 217) and the shade Sandalwood and blended this just above the crease towards the browbone highlight. It’s important to use the lightest shade, as this will be the transition shade. I applied a few layers of this eyeshadow to build up the density!

I then went into the shade Henna on a more tapered blending brush (MAC 221) and began to blend this through the crease, it’s important not to bring this shade higher than the crease or you’ll end up with a muddy look! To help the blend this use the first blending brush (MAC217) and no additional product!

Taking your dense brush (MAC 239) and the darkest brown shade, I used the shade Coco apply this from the lashline up to the crease. By starting at the lashline this ensures this is the darkest part, again use the previous brush to blend the darkest and the medium shade together.

For the lower lashline I used the medium brown shade, for me this is Henna, on the same brush as before and ran this along the lower lash line. For a more dramatic smokey look I blended this quite low down. I then took the darkest brown shade – Coco, on a pencil brush (MAC 219) and blended this closer to the lashline than Henna! To finish the lower lashes I took a little of Black Truffle and smudge this along the lashline.

To finish the eyes I first done winged liner using MAC Blacktrack and I ran this along the water line as well. I then applied some mascara and falsies, I used Ardell Demi Wispies. For the inner corner highlight I used the shade Moon Dust.
